Start the holiday season with sleigh rides, villancios (Christmas carols in Spanish), and Hanukkah songs! Liliana Guerrero will amaze you with a rendition of Bach-Gounod’s Ave Maria. The children’s chorus will enchant you with the holiday program. This spectacular evening will leave you with nothing but joyful memories and a story to tell around the Christmas tree.
A highlight of this winter spectacular is Quinn Mason’s Christmas Eve Festivities. Composed in November 2015, Quinn describes Christmas Eve Festivities as invoking a “short and charming picture of festive activities that occur before the Christmas holiday including sleigh rides, tree decorating and Christmas carols.”
About the Soloist: Dr. Liliana Guerrero is a very talented Professor of Voice at the Butler School of Music located at The University of Texas at Austin. Because of her Mexican and Cubano heritage, Dr. Gurrero focuses on research for advocating for Latin-American voices in classical music. Dr. Guerrero, a soprano, has performed her operatic repertoire all around the United States and Europe. In 2020 Dr. Guerrero received third place at the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing Inc.) Artists Awards.
About The Chorus: The Comal ISD Children’s Chorus features Students from Clear Springs and Farias-Spitzer Elementary Schools. The Mid-Texas Symphony provides an opportunity for up to eighty children every year to participate in this concert alongside the symphony. Their development in the children’s understanding of music is outstanding to see.
When asked about the concert, Conductor Akiko Fujimoto was quoted saying “Music is the best way to get into the holiday spirit, and this concert has something for everybody.”
